WHAT MOST DON'T KNOW

Lisa Marie Presley and Michael first met backstage at one of his concerts at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in 1975, when she accompanied her father — Elvis had taken her to see the Jackson 5 perform. They reconnected as adults in late 1992 at a Los Angeles party hosted by mutual friend Brett Livingstone Strong. They became romantically involved in the spring of 1994; their wedding ceremony, officiated by Judge Hugo Francisco Álvarez Pérez at the home of family friend Eladio Romero Santos, was kept secret for almost two months. When the marriage was announced in August 1994, it stunned the world — Michael had not been publicly linked to anyone in the press for years. The marriage lasted twenty months; Lisa Marie filed for divorce in January 1996. She later said the marriage had been real (not a sham to rehabilitate his image as some tabloids claimed), and that her two children with Michael 'almost happened' before she ultimately decided against it. They remained close friends; she attended his funeral, and her son Benjamin Keough — Elvis's only grandson — referred to Michael as 'Uncle Mike' until Michael's death.
